A Night at the Oscar.. I won!
Monday, December 01, 2008
Standing up there on the stage, trembling, face-to-face with 170+ colleagues that had turned up for the annual D&D, I could feel my legs slowly went weak... my smile was frozen on my face in an awkward manner (I think!) and I am so afraid my 4-inch stilettos would give way on the stage.
Did I mention I was trembling?
Just how the hell did I end up here!?
As the emcee called out the names that were nominated for the Miss Desirable 2008, each nominee was supposed to step up, and do something Miss-Desirable-worthy.
I felt absolutely helpless!
What should I do?!
In the end, I decided on the classic "flying kisses" stunt. I am relieved to hear hoots & cheers going on for me.
Then come the deciding time... the winner of the title was to be decided by the decibel of cheers going for her.
After one round of cheering, the 2nd runner-up was announce, I was left on stage with the other lady, Sheila. So there were to be another round of cheering to decide who will be Kaplan's Miss Desirable 2008. Sheila had commanded hoots, cheers & tables banging! Will there be any cheer left for me? I was worried sick, for fear of embarrassment for my remaining time in Kaplan.
When my name was called...
Half the ballroom exploded into cheers.
Very clearly from the stage, I could see colleagues from the various departments. I could see the program management people cheering crazily, clapping & shouting, I saw the student relationship officers applauding, and my own department colleagues, banging the tables all their might!
This is so unexpected.
I won.
Kaplan's Miss Desirable 2008.
Thank you to all of you who had screamed/cheered/applauded for me.
All of you had truly made this a memorable night for me.
